Shanghai Nanxiang INCITY MEGA was developed by Wanke YingLi Group, located at the core area of Nanxiang town in Shanghai Jiading. Total area is about 3369000 square meters, bringing over 400 brands and has about 3000 parking lots. It is the largest single-unit shopping mall in Shanghai.
>> CHALLENGE
Multi-scenario coordination and unity manipulation: The project contains indoor and multiple underground commercial spaces, underground and above-ground multi-layer parking lots, and rooftop garden commerce and metros. Requires style taking into account both commercial atmosphere and functional wayfinding ability, and simultaneously adapting to differential scenario demands.
The complexity of extra large-scale commercial complex: dense pedestrian flow line, signage needs to achieve effective ground, upper and underground, as well as metro diversion, in order to avoid conflicts with constructed structures, lighting and fire-fighting facilities.
Highly difficult construction coordination: Partial areas (void area, curved wall) have complex installation conditions, requiring cross work with curtain wall, interior installation and electromechanical teams; high complexity in precision, safety and coordination.
Schedule and Quality balance: Project usually has tight schedules, multiple signage types need to be manufactured at same time, to ensure the unity of work crafts, and on-time delivery.
>> SOLUTION
Adopting moduling designs, combined with customizing crafts, unifying fundamental design languages; building graded material standards, the outdoor emphasizes strengthening of anti-errosion and UV-resistance treatments. The indoor focuses on recycling and visual qualities.
Through BIM technology and on-site measurements, we conduct simulations on sign positions and actual setting-out proportions to ensure the continuity and visibility of key nodes, including signs at atriums, escalators and entrances & exits.
By establishing project groups, we maintain live coordination with the general contractor and subcontractors on construction interfaces, and also conduct testing and commissioning in each phase respectively.
We establish a dual-process of factory prefabrication and on-site assembly.
Crucial steps such as (welding, plating and graphical printing) are fully inspected. We also track the progress by using the "project dashboard" policy, ensuring qualities and timeliness.
>> IMPACT
Projects need to satisfy both indoor and outdoor endurance, safety and aesthetic requirements under different environments. Outdoor signage focuses on weather resistance and anti-corrusion, as well as structural safety. Indoor signage emphasizes on material recycling and craft details, adopting modular designs and standardized techniques. This helps to ensure unified overall style and strong scenario applicability.
Signage installation involves cross work of diverse areas of study, and considers abnormal structures and high-altitude construction difficulties. We use combination of pre-assembly and on-site adjustments to customize installing units, therefore ensuring installation qualities and delivery.
Fulfilling large amount of signage manufacturing within a tight schedule requires proper coordination of factory pre-manufacturing and on-site installation. By full craft inspection, standardized process management as well as tangible track of progress, we will make sure the correctness of products and deliver on time.
